Always aim at complete harmony of thought and word and deed.
Always aim at purifying your thoughts and everything will be well.
One of my favorite stories that relates to the development of harmony in the world is the one about the man who was trying to keep his young daughter occupied while they waited for other family members to arrive. She kept asking, “What can I do, Dad?” He noticed a full-sized picture of the earth in a magazine and had a thought. Using a scissors, he cut the page out of the magazine. Then he began to cut the page into thirty pieces of varying sizes and shapes. “Here,” he said, and giving her a roll of clear tape, went on, “Here’s a puzzle for you. See if you can put the world together.”
She took the pieces with great delight and in no time at all, returned with the page taped together with the world intact. “How did you do that so fast?” he asked.
“Well, when you were cutting the world into pieces, I noticed the picture of a man on the back side of the page. I just thought it was easier to put the man together, and once the man was together, then the world would be together.”
I think this is the secret to harmony in life. The first priority is to put yourself together – and then the world will come together on the outside.
Music in the soul can be heard by the universe. Lao Tzu
If confusion and disarray fill your inner mind, Who am I? What is my purpose? Why do I act in ways that I know I shouldn’t act?, your outer world will be out of harmony. You will see everything through the lens of conflict. The pieces of the puzzle are in disarray.
The world will never be in harmony without you doing your part. Put yourself together. Give yourself permission to work on yourself. Make it a priority. It’s the best investment of time you’ll ever make. When you work to put yourself together, then your world will come together. And your harmony will be felt by all.
