A Spoonful of Sugar Helps the Medicine Go…Up!

spoonful of sugarMary Poppins may have led us down the wrong path…a path that increases the need for medicine rather than helping the medicine [required] go down. And unfortunately, most medicine doesn’t cure the problem, it treats the symptoms. Rarely do modern pharmaceuticals restore natural harmony to your body.

Think about it. If pharmaceutical companies produced cures for diseases, they’d put themselves out of business. This just means you are responsible for doing the things that will help your body work the way it was designed to work.

A report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention states that one-third of the American people are pre-diabetic and ninety percent of them don’t know it. Studies have shown that high blood sugar, even within the so-called “normal range,” has been shown to increase the risk of dying of a heart attack or stroke by forty percent, as well as chronic diseases such as cancer, cardiovascular disease, Alzheimer’s, kidney disease, and neuropathy.

Increased sugar is one of the problems disrupting the harmony of your body. Sugar doesn’t come only in white, granular forms scooped onto a spoon and sprinkled on cereal or in medicine. Sodas, juices, sports drinks, beer, wine and store bought milk are loaded with sugar.

Breads, pastas, potato chips and popcorn are loaded with sugar. All sweeteners—even honey and agave—are loaded with sugar. Dried fruit, fruits, energy bars and yogurt are loaded with sugar.

Does it make any difference if your sugars are a little high? Yes.

Excess sugar in the blood causes the muscles to resist the uptake of sugar. This makes you get tired and stiff. Excess sugar in the blood converts directly into belly, hip, and body fat. Excess sugar quickly converts to bad cholesterol, which is linked to heart disease. Excess sugar surges to the brain and is linked to Alzheimer’s and dementia. Excess sugar sticks to proteins in the blood, causing heart disease, poor circulation, cancers, diabetes, cognitive issues, inflammation and chronic disease.[1]

Inflammation! I know people who went on a ten day detox plan, eliminating hidden sugars (and other things like artificial sweeteners, gluten, etc.) from their diets, and within three days noticed significant reduction in aches and pains associated with arthritis (inflammation in the joints).

Does it make a difference what you eat? Yes.

Do you have control over what you eat? Yes.

Do you have the discipline to say “no” to foods that disrupt the harmony of your physical body?

I suppose that is determined by how uncomfortable you can allow yourself to get before you do something about it.

It could depend on the belief you hold for your own ability to say “no.”

The mind is the control center for your actions. What you think and say is what you will do.

What you believe is what you will do. Say this affirmation every morning: “I am willing, able, and motivated to change my eating habits so my body can function like a well-cared for machine. I can and will reduce my sugar intake!”

Read the labels on processed foods. Reduce your sugar intake and your harmony will go up – in a most delightful way.
